Hire from Vietnam: senior Vietnamese software development, on real contracts.

Vietnam has quietly become one of the strongest engineering markets in Asia — deep computer-science pipelines, high retention, and a technical culture that produces excellent product engineers. Sprint Labs recruits, employs and manages Vietnamese developers, DevOps and mobile engineers for companies in Australia, the US and the UK.

    TL;DR

    One paragraph, then the detail.

Vietnam is Asia's fastest-growing engineering market — strong on product engineering, mobile and DevOps, with a work culture that skews technical, methodical and long-tenure. Sprint Labs is the legal employer, runs Vietnamese-dong payroll, handles social insurance (BHXH), 13th-month bonus norms and PIT, and bills you one monthly seat cost.

    Why Vietnam

    Why companies hire from Vietnam.

Vietnam graduates over 50,000 IT students a year, and the top engineering universities in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City produce the kind of computer-science graduates who used to leave for Singapore or the US. Retention is materially better than in Bangalore or Manila — Sprint Labs' Vietnamese engineers average 3+ year tenures — and salaries remain 25–40% below Filipino equivalents for mid-to-senior engineering roles.

    Compliance

Employment, compliance and payroll in Vietnam.

    Vietnamese labour contract

Sprint Labs signs a Vietnamese-law employment contract with every hire, in Vietnamese and English, with IP assignment carried through to the client MSA and Work Order.

    Social insurance (BHXH, BHYT, BHTN)

Compulsory social, health and unemployment insurance is registered and remitted by Sprint Labs. You do not need a Vietnamese entity.

    Personal income tax

PIT is withheld and remitted monthly by Sprint Labs; annual finalisation is filed on the employee's behalf. Salaries are quoted net-of-tax to the candidate.

    13th-month & Tết bonus

Not legally mandatory but universally expected — most Vietnamese engineers weigh Tết bonus into their acceptance decision. Sprint Labs handles it as part of the annual comp structure.

    Leave & public holidays

12+ days annual leave, plus 11 public holidays and Tết (typically 5 working days). Sprint Labs administers all of it in-portal.

    Timezone & collaboration

How Vietnam overlaps your working day.

Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City are UTC+7 — one hour behind Singapore, two hours behind Sydney. Vietnamese teams overlap the entire Australian and Singaporean working day, get a strong early-shift overlap with the UK, and a manageable 6–7 hour overlap with the US West Coast morning.

    FAQ

People asking about Vietnamese software development.

How much does it cost to hire a software developer in Vietnam?

A mid-level Vietnamese software engineer through Sprint Labs typically costs USD 2,600–3,800 per month all-in; a senior USD 4,000–6,000. That includes the engineer's salary, social insurance, Tết bonus norms, hardware, HR and Sprint Labs' employer overhead. Vietnam is usually the most cost-effective market in Asia for mid-to-senior product engineering.

Is Vietnam a good place to hire senior developers?

Yes — arguably the best in South-East Asia for product engineering. Vietnam produces ~57,000 IT graduates a year (TopDev Vietnam IT Market Report, 2024) and has a technical culture that skews methodical and long-tenure. Sprint Labs' Vietnamese engineers average 3+ year tenures, materially higher than India or the Philippines.

Do we need to open a Vietnamese entity to hire Vietnamese engineers?

No. Sprint Labs is the local employer of record. Your Vietnamese engineers are contracted by us under Vietnamese labour law, paid in Vietnamese dong, and managed by you day-to-day.

How is IP ownership handled with Vietnamese hires?

Every Sprint Labs Vietnamese employment contract includes an IP assignment clause in favour of Sprint Labs, which is then assigned to the client through the MSA and Work Order. You own the code the same way you would if you had hired the engineer in-house.

Can Vietnamese engineers work Australian or US hours?

Vietnam is UTC+7 — one hour behind Singapore, two hours behind Sydney. That gives full synchronous overlap with AU/NZ and SG, and a 6–7 hour overlap with the US West Coast morning. Most Vietnamese engineers work a standard 9-to-6 local shift that already overlaps the entire APAC day.

What technologies is Vietnam strongest for?

Vietnam is deep in backend (Go, Node, Java, Python), mobile (iOS, Android, Flutter, React Native), DevOps/SRE, blockchain and data/AI engineering. It also has a growing bench of senior technical CSMs for developer-tool and infrastructure companies.
